Bicycling and Hiking in Boulder Junction

BikingBicyclists will appreciate Boulder Junction’s extensive trail offerings. Some of the best mountain bike rides in all the Northwoods can be found in Boulder Junction. Don’t miss the Lumberjack Trail, Nichol’s Beach Trail, or Crystal Lake Trail, all part of the excellent Boulder Junction Area Trail System. Much of the Boulder Junction Trail system is paved and available to touring bicyclists, as well as a network of hundreds of miles of quiet country roads with spectacular woodland scenery and unbelievable waterscapes.

Hikers looking to explore the forests will find several designated hiking trails, including the Escanaba-Pallette Lake Trail, with four trail loops ranging from 2 to 8.5 miles. Birdwatchers and wildlife enthusiasts can also explore the 225,000-acre Northern Highland-American Legion State Forest, offering hundreds of miles of paths, trails and logging roads.

Horseback riding is also allowed in the Northern Highland-American Legion State Forest.
